AFC Blackpool 3 AFC Liverpool 6 - with photos

Normal service was resumed as AFC Liverpool bounced back from midweek disappointments in the Senior Cup to score six against AFC Blackpool in the league.

AFC Blackpool gave Reds fans a scare by going ahead within moments of the kickoff, but Dave Eaton replied almost instantly with a top corner strike.

AFC Liverpool had the bulk of the possession and pressure for the remainder of the half and got their reward just before half time, with two quick goals from striker Dean Thurston - keeping up his record of scoring in every league game.

His second in particular was a special goal as the ball dropped over his shoulder from on high, and it took great technique for him to kill the ball before despatching it home.

Attacking full back Martin Crowder scored a fine individual goal to put the Reds 4-1 up.

It was the left again that brought our fifth goal. Winger Andy McCoy burst into the penalty area and, finding little support alongside him in the box, fired a text book finish across the keeper that found its way into the far corner.

It could have been more when Dave Eaton was chopped down in the penalty area for what looked a clear penalty, but the ref saw differently and waved play on.

With the game seemingly done and dusted, the Tangerines staged a fightback to make it 5-2.

Yet Martin Smeaton extended our advantage with a sublime finish to make it 6-2, before Blackpool had the last word, albeit a consolation, to make it 6-3.

The Reds also had two goals ruled out due to the offside flag so it was a fine attacking display from AFC Liverpool.

The win was even more important as title rivals Cheadle Town slipped to their first defeat of the season to open a 3 point gap at the top.
