AFC Blackpool Preview

The Reds welcome the First Division Champions tomorrow as AFC Blackpool come to Valerie Park for AFC Liverpool’s final league game of the 2010/11 campaign.Marking a century of Vokdat North West Counties Football League games, the Reds need just one point to secure third place following their win over Oldham Boro on Wednesday evening. The Reds have a good record against the visitors having won six and drawn one of the seven previous meetings between the two clubs. This will be the third time they’ve played each other this season, with AFC Liverpool twice winning at the Mechanics Ground. A 2-1 league victory in September was followed by a 2-0 win in the FA Vase.
The visitors have lost on each of their three previous visits to Valerie Park, going down 5-0 in January 2009 and then losing by the same 3-1 scoreline twice in a week at the back end of last season. A league defeat came seven days after the Reds triumphed in the semi final of the Vodkat First Division Trophy and should the Reds beat Norton United on Monday, then the two teams will face each other again at the same stage of this season’s competition.
The visitors clinched the championship with a win against Holker Old Boys on Wednesday evening and are still in for a treble hunt of their own as they face Irlam in Vodkat League Cup on Monday. Since they lost to the Reds in the FA Vase in November, they have had an impressive record, winning twenty two, drawing two and losing two scoring eighty goals in the process. Only Atherton Collieries have kept them from geeting on the score sheet in that run.
