AFC Liverpool 0 v 2 Chadderton

A dogged performance and two second half strikes from Adam Edwards ensured that Chadderton left Valerie Park with all three points.

Following on from Wednesday night’s second half performance, expectations were raised but here there was none of the fluidity that tore apart Cheadle Town. The movement appeared laboured and the passes forced as Chadderton maintained their shape and kept the Reds at bay.

Sean Ferguson had an early header but he couldn’t put any power into it allowing Lee Swanson to make a comfortable save and Kieran Quinn rasped in a shot from the edge of the area which the Chadderton keeper only held at the second attempt.

With only a couple of half chances from Edwards, the visitors came out after the break with a little more determination and should have taken the lead when Joseph Jacombs slid in at the near post to meet Edwards’ cross. The breakthrough came a minute later when Edwards, latching onto a clearance, raced into the area before firing low into the far corner.

A goal to the good, Chadderton were content to sit on their lead and AFC Liverpool were unable to build the momentum in searching for an equaliser. On a couple of occasions it threatened to materialise but today Neil Jones couldn’t direct his header on target and Steve Corris’ free kick was comfortably turned over by Swanson.

When Stephen Jones came onto Shaun Chart’s cross unmarked at the back post and sent his effort skyward, the game was slipping away from the Reds and the result was confirmed when Edwards danced his way through three challenges before finding the back of the net.
