AFC Liverpool 2-1 Leek CSOB

AFC Liverpool managed to overcome Leek CSOB today, beating them 2-1 and adding another 3 points to their tally, infront of 324 spectators.

The game started fairly even, with no clear cut opportunites for either side.  The best chance fell to AFC captain Andy Barlow, who hit a shot just over the bar.  The 1st goal came 20 minutes in, after AFC Liverpool were awarded a penalty as Ian Sheridan was brought down inside the box.  Birthday boy, Dean Thurston, stepped up to take it and calmly slotted it to the keepers right, sending him the wrong way.  The score stayed at 1-0 through to half time, as Leek kept things very tight at the back, making it hard for AFC to create any decent chances.

Early in the 2nd half, another penalty was awarded, this time for the visiting side.  The pen was converted, despite the efforts of the AFC fans behind the goal who did their best to off put the taker.  AFC Liverpool looked the better side in the 2nd half, creating many good chances without being able to capitalise.  Leek managed to brake out of defence and form a counter attack, only for a late offside call from the linesman, ruling out the goal.  With 10 minutes to go, AFC were awarded a free kick.  Whilst the ball was placed down ready to be taken, 2nd half subsitute Andy Mccoy was sent off after words were axchanged with the officials.  After I scramble from the free kick, captain Andy Barlow managed to get the ball in the net, scoring his first goal of the season.

AFC Liverpool deserved their win today, and could have got more goals if it wasn’t for some dogged defending by the away team.

Final score: 2-1         Attendance: 324
