A week before the opening matches of the new season, these two clubs produced a fascinating game of football with the Fans Trophy up for grabs in front of a crowd of 180.

This match was decided by the continued emergence of the AFC Liverpool youngsters; some of whom were making their home debuts, which bodes well for Derek Goulding’s team.

Much like the weather, the game improved in the second half, as the first had produced a stalemate. The away team took the lead through Simon Howard’s goal; undeterred AFC Liverpool’S slick passing style continued creating several chances before equalising through Andy McCoy.

The home team continued to dominate so much so that Martin Campbell the Linnets keeper became man of the match, however he could do nothing to stop Matty Williams scoring the winner with only minutes to spare as the fans started to think about a penalty decider.

This was another fine performance by Derek’s lads to continue the form they showed at Nelson - bring on the new season!
