AFC Liverpool 3 v 2 Alsager Town - Match Result

AFC Liverpool came away victorious in the 2nd round of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup.
Attending this match were representatives from Liverpool Homeless FC, who, as part of our community programme, were presented with last seasons reserve team kits.

The game was described as a clash between two attacking teams which promised goals, and it didnt disappoint.
The first 20 minutes saw both teams having really good chances to take the lead, with Stuart Tulluch of Alsager coming closest, shooting just wide at the Kop end.
It was AFC Liverpool though that had the breakthrough on 24 minutes, when Mark Bloxham played a 45 yard ball into the Alsager box, only to see the keeper push the ball into the path of Ojapah, who placed his shot past the keeper into the net.
Alsager got the equaliser on 42 minutes, when a misunderstanding in the AFC Liverpool box saw Tulluch neatly round the defender to slot the ball into the far corner of the goal.
Seven minutes later, and it was Tulluch again who cleverly took the ball past Paul Willis, after another mistake in the AFC Liverpool defence. He made no mistake with the finish to put Alsager 2-1 up.
Alsager continued to press, with several shots at goal, the best a long range effort from Curtis, who tried to place the ball into the top corner.
The game opened up into real end-to-end attacking play, with AFC Liverpool pushing forward for the equaliser to take the game into extra time.
Humphries played the ball into the path of the returning Ryan Wignall, whose shot was parried by the keeper.
Minutes later, AFC Liverpool levelled the score, when an impressive tackle by Ojapah led to Corris surging forward into the box, who then passed to John Kennedy, who hit it first time into the bottom corner.
Bouyed by the equaliser, AFC pushed everyone forward, and nearly won the game in normal time when Joe Evans crossed the ball to Stafford in the box, which brought a reaction save from the keeper, who pushed the ball out to Kennedy, only to see the ball fall back into the arms of the keeper.
The game went into extra time, and it was AFC Liverpool who made their chances count, when a great ball into the box by Mullin found Ojapah, who headed the ball back into the 6 yard box to Bloxham, who headed the ball past the Alsager keeper.
The final few minutes saw Alsager push players forward, and it nearly payed dividends, bringing a fine save from Willis, and a goal-line clearance from Coyne in the dying seconds.
Final score - AFC Liverpool 3 - Alsager Town 2.

AFC Liverpool will now meet Glossop North End away in the 3rd Round. Date to be decided.
