AFC Liverpool Progress Report April 08

Here is an extensive progress report based on many of the questions you have asked us, and many of the events currently happening around the club. We will be publishing a progress report at the beginning of every month from now on.

Founder Member Certificates

These will be delivered in bulk just before the beginning of the season. Members will be contacted no later than July to collect full membership details.

Matchday Team Shadow Event

On April 19th our matchday team will be shadowing the matchday team of Runcorn Linnets at their home game. Anybody wishing to volunteer to be part of this matchday team should contact us asap.

We are continuing discussions with local clubs with a view to a groundshare. These discussions are not yet complete but are progressing well.

AFC Liverpool Manager

The deadline for applicants for the job of manager of AFC Liverpool closed on Monday 31 March at noon. Our shortlisting panel is now studying the CVs we received with a view to inviting a number of candidates for interview. We expect to have our final shortlist in place by the end of the week.

Our target is to have 1000 members by the start of the season in August. We currently have 344 members. This is greater than we expected at this early stage given that we have several of our major press stories still to take place eg groundshare announcement, managerial appointment, player trials, pre season friendlies etc.

Money Raised

We are not keen at this point to reveal the actual monies pledged while we are in negotiations with other organisations, but to answer one members specific question, we have exceeded what we need to get up and running. In other words, we are financially viable.

AFC Liverpool has the support of Peter Kilfoyle MP, George Howarth MP, Sefton Borough Council, and several Liverpool City Councillors. We also have the support of broadcaster and Daily Mirror columnist Brian Reade.

Thanks to everyone who has taken our online survey. Results are giving us a good idea of what you believe is a fair price. Also, 40% of supporters have said they wish to buy a season ticket.

We have been approached by several companies and organisations with regard to the AFC Liverpool kit, but we have decided not to move forward on this for the time being. We will of course be playing in red!

Club Crest

The club crest or badge will be decided by a competition run by magazine. People will be encouraged to send in designs and ideas for the club crest. The best options will be put to a vote of the clubs membership who will make the final decision on the AFC Liverpool crest.

Membership Rights & Democracy

In terms of membership and the constitution, we are currently in discussion with Cobbetts solicitors and the Supporters Direct organisation to incorporate AFC Liverpool as an Industrial & Provident Society.

We are taking advice from them with regards to the final constitution, but members will be able to vote on resolutions put forward by members and also will elect the board at the end of each term.

If you are still a little unclear what that means in practice, check out how some of the other IPS status football clubs operate for an insight into how an IPS football club works in terms of the democratic process.

Once the constitution is set up and in place, we will be calling regular meetings to share feedback and exchange ideas with our supporters and members.

Founding members will have no greater rights than other members, but do have a hell of a lot of prestige having been here from the ground up. And a certificate to prove it! Membership will be renewed annually.

Player Trials

The trials will be a challenge of logistics as several hundred people have applied and it will be a major task to ensure that everybody gets their chance. It will happen over the bank holiday Mayday weekend. Our trials subgroup are currently sourcing somewhere that has more than one pitch. We have a few ideas in mind but if you have any, let us know.

We are particularly looking to get hold of some numbered bibs. If you know anybody who has these then get in touch.

Expected Team & Youth Setup

We expect to have a first team, a reserves and an Under 16 team initially. Depending on developments within the youth setup, it may well be more extensive than an U16 side, but our emphasis is on development of young players and bringing in the right coaches, not just any coaches.
