AFC Liverpool Trials Success

Over three hundred amateur footballers turned out for AFC Liverpool on May Day Bank Holiday Monday when the new non league club held trials for players.

Recently appointed manager Derek Goulding was present to cast his eye over the proceedings and declared himself impressed with the standard on display.

Goulding said: “It was important for me to be here today, and the quality of players has been very good. There are certainly some players here that interest me as a manager.”

The triallists were a mixture of Sunday league players trying their luck, alongside footballers who had played in much higher leagues.

One said: “It’s about putting on the red shirt and playing in front of so many people. I’m not likely to play for the real Liverpool but I might be able to play for AFC Liverpool.”

Club spokesperson Alun Parry said: “The event has been a huge success. The lads here today a following a dream and they have equipped themselves extremely well. The number of people here to play and to watch shows how much the club has struck a chord with the Merseyside public. We can’t wait for the season to start now.”

AFC Liverpool are set up for those who can no longer afford Premiership prices. They hope to be accepted into the Vodkat League next season.
