AFC Liverpool v Ashton - Match Report - with pics

AFC Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Vodkat League, with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Ashton Town and in doing so, completed their first league double of the season, after the 3-0 win at Ashton earlier in the season.

Ashton started well and defied their lowly league position at times, as despite the score line, they caused the Reds problems on occasions. After an even start, Martin Smeaton, continued his good form, in breaking the deadlock for the home side, with a smart finish.

AFC Liverpool then really took the game to Ashton for the rest of the first half, whilst attacking towards the typically boisterous Kop end.

Martin Crowder, then scored the goal of the game, with a brilliant curling shot, from the edge of the area, that sailed into the top corner. A candidate for goal of the season. After missing more chances to have the game won in the first half, AFC Liverpool were worth the 2-0 lead.

Shortly after half time, Ashton pulled a goal back and in torrential rain, got themselves back in the game and started to press for an equaliser.

Further goals by Dave Eaton and James Croxton, put an extra gloss on the score line, as the Reds won comfortably in the end, to cement their position as league leaders.
