AFC Liverpool’s unbeaten run comes to end in Cup.

Following AFC Liverpool were unlucky to lose a close encounter this Saturday, with a 2-0 defeat to New Mills AFC in the Vodkat Challenge Cup.

In a tight game that saw AFC Liverpool fail to capitalise on some good pressure, New Mills AFC took the spoils with two goals in quick succession in the second half.

The reds were unlucky not to be ahead during the early stages of the first half, with some nice link up play leading to James Croxton seeing his effort just wide of the goalkeeper’s left hand post.

New Mills had their own chance to break the scoring with an open goal opportunity squandered by McGowan.

The first half saw an end to end battle, with both teams coming close but the crucial first goal seemed elusive.

AFC Liverpool started the second half brightly with some good play, and had a right to feel aggrieved going a goal down thanks to a New Mills counter attack culminating in a Will Aherne finish in the 64th minute.

The lead was doubled just ninety seconds later, with Mark Bloxham unlucky to slice the ball into Terry McCormick’s net following a cross from the left wing.

Not prepared to concede defeat lightly, AFC Liverpool pushed forward in search of a comeback goal, with nice play down the flanks that ultimately came to nothing.

Manager Derek Goulding looked to change things during the second half bringing on Ryan Wignall and Martin Smeaton, but the New Mills defence stood resolute and saw the game out to take their place in the 3rd round of the cup.

AFC Liverpool would like to wish the New Mills AFC the very best of luck for the remainder of their campaign.
