AFC Lose at Oldham

AFC Liverpool were left to rue a missed first half penalty as two late goals gave Oldham Town victory in their Vodkat League 1st Division encounter on Saturday.

Despite the windy conditions the Reds did manage to keep the ball well in the first half, but suffered a blow after a quarter of an hour when leading scorer Dean Thurston had a penalty saved by the Oldham keeper.

The rest of the half remained evenly matched with the home side being a bit shaky at the back but AFC were unable to take advantage of this with Andy McCoy seeing an effort saved and the Town defence also clearing off the line from a corner.

In the 68th minute AFCL took the lead, Olsen running onto a through ball and slotting the ball under the keeper’s body with his left foot. The Reds tried to find a second goal but couldn’t and were undone by two goals in the last seven minutes, Stuart McGill scoring the equaliser and James Curley hitting the winners with just two minutes remaining.

The win leaves AFCL four points clear at the top although closest challengers Padiham are four points behind with three games in hand.
