Atherton Colleries v AFC Liverpool - Match Preview

On Boxing Day, weather permitting, AFC Liverpool fans will be visiting a new ground when they travel to Alder Street, the home of Atherton Collieries.
‘The Colls’ were formed in 1916 by miners from the six pits in the Atherton area and competed in the Bolton and Lancashire Combinations and Cheshire League before becoming founder members of the North West Counties League in 1982.
They won the third division in 1987 and gained promotion to the first division in 1996. A thirteen year tenure in the top division finally came to end last season and they have had mixed fortunes this season. Four wins and three draws from their fourteen games see the Colls nestled in mid-table.
The Reds will be looking to get their promotion push back on track following three consecutive league defeats and will be hoping to transfer their cup form into a league win.
So if you’re looking to get away from the turkey and the television, cheering on Derek Goulding’s men is the perfect antidote.

Directions: M61 to junction 5, follow sign for Westhoughton, turn left onto A6, turn right onto A579 (Newbrook Road/Bolton Road) into Atherton. At first set of traffic lights turn left into High Street, then second left into Alder Street to ground.

Nearest Railway Station: Atherton Central
