AFC Liverpool

Boxing Day Derby

Should the weather not intervene, then AFC Liverpool have a Boxing Day derby against Bootle.

It will be almost three years to the day since the Reds only visit to Bootle and a similar result this time would be would be a great late Christmas present for Reds fans as AFC Liverpool ran out 4-3 winners in a thriller of a match. Andy Olsen put the Reds 1-0 up at half time but a quick double soon after the break from Andy Fowler put the home side in front. Ian Sheridan levelled the scores only for Chris Tyson to put Bootle back in front. A quick reply from Dean Thurston restored parity before Andy McCoy won it late on for the Reds.

Back in the present day both sides have not played since the beginning of the month when they had opposite scorelines. The Reds went down 4-0 away to Stone Dominoes while Bootle won by the same score at home to Silsden. That result extended the hosts’ unbeaten run to twelve games and put them top of the league on goal difference ahead of Ramsbottom United.
