Chadderton 1 AFC Liverpool 3 - with photos

AFC Liverpool overcame a tricky tie away to high flying Chadderton to notch up three straight wins in their league campaign.

Chadderton started well with some good posession play, but it wasn’t long before AFC Liverpool asserted their dominance.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when young striker Martin Smeaton’s shot beat Chadderton keeper, Lee Swanson.

On the half hour mark a trademark mazy run by attacking full back Martin Crowder put him into the penalty area where he beat his man and fired home.

Chadderton persisted and put themselves back in the game just before half time with an Andrew Fulham goal, leaving the match well blanced at the interval.

In a second half where the next goal was always going to prove crucial, AFC Liverpool looked the more likely in what was a well contested match.

The Merseysiders suffered the loss of their influential captain James Dever on the hour mark when he suffered a large cut to the head.

But even that misfortune was turned into a virtue when replacement Kevin Poole’s good work led to him being brought down in the box.

AFC Liverpool’s top scorer Dean Thurston claimed the penalty and finished comfortably to reestablish their two goal cushion.

Chadderton rallied but were mainly operating on the counter attack, and it was AFC Liverpool who had the best chances to add to the scoresheet.

Wayne Rooney’s former strike partner Dave Eaton, today playing wide left, cut inside to deliver a fierce strike which Swanson tipped against the Chadderton bar.

Swanson was called into action again when Smeaton was through on goal, saving low down to his right.

The win gives AFC Liverpool a 100% record after three matches.
