Eccleshall United 0 - AFC Liverpool 1

AFC Liverpool left Staffordshire triumphant tonight, with a late penalty from Ian Sheridan securing the three points to keep the reds well placed in the fight for promotion.

While neither team took full control of the game, AFC Liverpool will be pleased with the result, having the majority of chances and overcoming a number of decisions that didn’t go their way throughout the game.

The best of the first half action came from AFC Liverpool with McCoy finding good space in the box but having his shot deflected over. Later on Bloxam also came close to breaking the deadlock with a header from a corner which was well saved by the keeper.

The second half saw AFC Liverpool dominate possession but lacked the cutting edge, with the only notable chance being cleared off the line following a free kick. With AFC Liverpool pushing for the elusive goal, substitute Ryan Wignall was judged to have been brought down in the box with 3 minutes left, giving Ian Sheridan the chance to score from the penalty spot. Sheridan didn’t disappoint, sending the keeper the wrong way with a cool finish to the right hand post.

While Eccleshall pushed on for an equaliser the AFC Liverpool defence stood strong and ultimately deserved the three points for a solid performance.
