FA Vase Preview

Weather permitting, AFC Liverpool will take a trip to the north east to face Whitley Bay in the Third Round of the Carslberg FA Vase this Saturday.

The hosts are the currents holders of the FA Vase, having won the competition in each of the last two seasons, adding to their earlier success in 2002. Currently lying fifth in the Northern League Division 1, The Bay have won their last two matches, both played since the weather improved post Christmas. In the previous round,, they came away from Thackley FC of the NCEL Premier Division with a 1-0 victory
AFC Liverpool have played three matches to reach this stage of the competition, beating, at home, Dinnington Town (1-0) and Hallam (3-0), both of the NCEL and then winning 2-0 away at AFC Blackpool in the last round. The Reds have only managed to play one game since the poor weather caused weeks of disruption, drawing 1-1 with Cheadle Town last Monday.
This will be AFC Liverpool’s sternest test yet but Paul Moore’s men are more than capable of upsetting the odds, currently 6/1 against on Skybet, with the hosts at 3/1 on.
There is a pitch inspection at 8.30 am tomorrow but the forecast from the north east is optimistic that the game will go ahead with milder temperatures expected overnight. The result will be posted as soon as it is known.

Venue: Hillheads Park Hillheads Rd Whitley Bay NE25 8HR
