Liverpool Senior Cup Preview

AFC Liverpool take on Formby this Tuesday in the first round of this season’s Liverpool Senior Cup.

Without a win yet this season, AFC Liverpool manager Paul Moore remains positive that the Reds can break their duck at Altcar Road. The last two games, against Flixton and Atherton LR, have seen an improvement in performances and the results haven’t done justice to the effort put in.

Formby, who play in the First Division of the North West Counties, currently lie in seventh with twelve points from five games. Two wins, 2-0 against Oldham Boro and 4-0 against Atherton Collieries was followed by a 4-0 loss to Abbey Hey. In their last two league games, the goals have been flying in at both end, with Formby winning 4-3 and 6-3 against Holker Old Boys and Cheadle Town respectively. The hosts also have beaten Premier Division opposition in the form of Alsager Town in the FA Cup.

The two sides have met once before in this competition, back in 2009, again at Altcar Road, when the Reds ran out 2-0 winners, with goals from John Kennedy and Tod Bamber.
