Match Report - Irlam v AFC Liverpool - with pics

AFC Liverpool cemented their position as league leaders, with a hard fought victory over Irlam FC.

Irlam started the game well, and threatened on a few occasions in the early stages of the game.

The reds suffered an early set back with goalkeeper Paul Willis Stretchered off injured and he was replaced by Terry McCormick.

After a bright opening, Irlam fell behind to a James Croxton strike midway through the first half. That was all that separated the teams at half time, in what had been a fairly even first half.

After the break AFC Liverpool stepped up a gear and extended the lead shortly after the break.
Centre half Mark Bloxham carried on his purple patch in front of goal, with an exquisite strike, which sailed over the keeper and flew into the top corner.
With a two goal cushion, the Reds, started to take control of the game and created plenty of chances to seal the three points.

Ian Sheridan sealed the win late on, after rounding the Irlam goalkeeper and side footing into an empty net.

The victory left AFC Liverpool top of the Vodkat League, going into next weeks Vodkat trophy game with Eccleshall.
