Message from Manager Derek Goulding

Manager Derek Goulding took time out from his schedule to offer a few words prior to tomorrows game against Alsager Town in the Cup.

“Tomorrows game against Alsager town gives us another chance to pit our wits against a Vodkat Premier League side, in the second round of the Vodkat League Challenge Cup.
Cup games are always a special occasion, and give an extra incentive to the players, as shown against Formby and Chadderton recently, in the Liverpool Senior Cup, and League Challenge Cup respectively.
Previously, we have tested ourselves successfully against teams from a higher level, with good wins against the likes of Nelson and Runcorn Linnets in pre-season.
What is important to remember, is that Cup games tend to provide a better atmosphere, especially when we have home advantage, as we do tomorrow. It definitely lifts the team as a whole, and to walk out onto the pitch seeing a wall of colour with the many flags and banners, and hearing the roar of the kop, certainly gives everyone a huge lift.
Our support is unique at this level, and reminds me of standing in the Kop at Anfield, looking out onto the pitch, and imagining what it must be like for the players on the field. I remember thinking that must give the players such a buzz.
Although AFC Liverpool is on a much smaller level, the noise generated and feeling you get when about to take the field, takes me back to those days on the Kop.

I recall thinking on many occasions “This is what its all about”
Speaking to the players, they have said that it makes a huge difference, and really gives them more belief in themselves.
Back to tomorrows game, and we will be looking to secure our place in the next round, after winning our last two games against tough opposition.

It would be good to see all the banners out again for this game, and for the Kop to make a lot of noise.”
