Reds Suffer Injury Crisis

AFC Liverpool are suffering an injury crisis ahead of this weekend’s away trophy tie against Eccleshall with five first teamers out of action.

Top goalscorer Dean Thurston is a long term casualty with knee ligament damage. Yet there was some good news from manager Derek Goulding who estimated that Thurston should be back in three to four weeks - less than originally thought.

Influential forward Dave Eaton has suffered a hamstring injury. Goulding said: “A hamstring injury can put you out for up to six weeks, but it looks like Eaton’s isn’t a bad injury so we’re expecting three weeks. Nonetheless he is definitely out for the Trophy match.”

Young striker Martin Smeaton, with five goals to his name already this term, is out for 2 weeks.

Keeper Paul Willis was stretchered off in the Irlam game with an injury to his ankle. Willis has suffered ligament strain and faces a 3 week lay off.

Jay Chandler is also suffering a hamstring problem, and Goulding says that his powerful centre back remains a good week away from a return.

On a brighter note, midfielder Ian Johnson is fit for contention for Saturday’s game following his recent injury.
