A fine blend of youth and experience saw AFC Liverpool win away 5-0 at Rochdale on Saturday in their 1st league game of the season. After dominating the first half an hour AFC finally took the lead on 38 minutes when local prospect David Ojapah rounded the goalkeeper and kept his head to slot home to open the scoring.

The half time score had flattered the home team. When Andy McCoy missed an opportunity from the penalty spot to put Liverpool further ahead it only served to herald a period of play when AFC were relentless and left Rochdale so dispirited that Liverpool keeper Paul Willis only touched the ball twice in the whole of the second half.

The next twenty minutes saw Rochdale undone by some fine passing football that deserved comparison with “The Liverpool Way”. Ojapah got his second in the 58th minute before Captain Liam Coyne made it 3-0 with a rasper from outside the box. Ryan Wignall, who had a fine game on the wing made it four after 76 minutes.

The highlight of the game came when the effervescent Ojapah gathered the ball with his back to goal. After looking up to see if there was anything else on he turned and sent the ball curling towards the top corner but was denied his hat trick by a fantastic save by the Rochdale Keeper who had to be a contender for man of the match. Ojapah would not be denied though and on 85 minutes after a fine move which cut through the home defence like a hot knife through butter Ojapah netted to complete his Hat Trick.

The 5-0 score line represents the clubs record away victory in their short history and has and has left its supporters licking their lips in anticipation of the clubs first home game of the season which is on Saturday 15th Aug (3pm) at Valerie Park, Prescot.
