Stone Dominoes 0 - AFC Liverpool 4 - match report

AFC Liverpool cruised to a 4-0 win at Stone Dominoes today, despite being down to ten men.

The reds went into half-time just 1-0 up, but Stone Dominoes failed to capitalise on captain Ian Johnson’s straight red, for a late tackle at forty minutes, and AFC went on to secure yet another comfortable win.

The first twenty minutes saw equal pressure from both sides before Ndiwa “King” Kangana met Andy Olsen’s header with a cracking strike into the back of the net.

Dominoes fought back strongly, challenging Terry McCormick to make a fantastic save over his head just minutes later.

Kangana’s scoring was capped at three in two when Christian Dacres took him down with a late lunge after thirty-five minutes. He was then replaced by Ryan Wignall who went on to score AFC Liverpool’s second goal just minutes after half-time.

The goals kept coming, as Croxton rounded the keeper to find the net after sixty minutes. The final goal came from Martin Smeaton, a seventy minute substitute for Croxton, who was set up by Wignall across the box.

Andy McCoy was almost rewarded for a superb game with a dash down the wing on the approach to full time. The shot ended up in the hands of the keeper and Liverpool had to be satisfied with a four-goal lead.

The clean sheet was cemented with an excellent tackle in the box by Mark Bloxam, stopping Stone Dominoes getting one back just minutes from the end.

The result kept AFC Liverpool firmly at the top of the league on the day that Derek Goulding picked up his second Manager of the Month award, following the team’s 100% record in October. AFC Liverpool’s top scorer Dean Thurston also took home an award for Player of the Month in August.
