Trophy Result: Eccleshall 1 AFC Liverpool 4

AFC Liverpool coasted into the 2nd Round of the Vodkat First Division Trophy with an excellent display of passing football against Eccleshall.

Originally scheduled as a home game for the Reds, this match was played away instead due to a fixture clash with landlords Prescot Cables.

However, neither this or AFC Liverpool’s major injury crisis proved an obstacle, as they struck four despite missing their three main strikers as part of an injury list of five first teamers.

Replacement striker Andy Olsen opened the scoring on 15 minutes after being a recurrent early danger.

Congo international Ndiwa “King” Kangana finished off a fine team move by netting from Ian Sheridan’s well placed cut back to make it 2-0 by half time.

A contender for goal of the month was next when winger Andy McCoy thundered an unstoppable drive into the top corner from distance.

Only the woodwork saved Eccleshall from going further behind, before Kangana completed AFC Liverpool’s scoring with a spectacular diving header to round up a fine performance from the centre back.

Eccleshall were allowed a late consolation from the penalty spot in the final minute of the game, but it was AFC Liverpool who booked their place in the second round of the competition.
